Miley Cyrus Fan Club Lawsuit Settled, The Climb SKY Rockets UP Billlboard
Miley Cyrus' fan club members, MileyWorld.com, can get their memberships extended for free under a deal reached this week between the state Attorney General's Office and a Nashville company, reports Pittsburgh Live.
More than 700 people in Pennsylvania complained to Attorney General Tom Corbett's office after they paid to join the fan club in 2007, but didn't receive early access to concert tickets as advertised. The affected club members, 966 in all, will have their accounts at MileyWorld.com credited with an additional four months of free membership. The annual membership fee is $29.95.
AG rep: 'Those consumers weren't told that they never had a shot at tickets. We felt that was deception. The crux of our complaint was that it is important for consumers to get all the information up front.'
The offending company must pay $20,000 in penalties to the state and post a notice on the Web site saying: 'Purchase of a MileyWorld fan club membership does not guarantee access to tickets.'
Miley's single 'The Climb' landed No. 6 in its debut week, making it her highest-charting effort, surpassing the No. 9 peak of '7 Things' from July 2008. 'The Climb' debuts at No. 3 on the Hot Digital Songs chart.
