Miley is a disney star...they have ALWAYS been held to a higher moral standard than other actors/entertainers their age. i agree, but you have to remember,
Miley has like 7 year old girls looking up to her,
yeah most girls on the face of the earth find Taylor hot,
but that is what they expect out of him, not because he is trashy,
just because of his career path and that is what his job calls for.

Miley is under the Disney name and influences most young girls.
Taylor doesn't, girls, even little ones(maybe not 7, but like 11) want to see him shirtless.

I do think its differnt. I mean Miley was FIFFTEEN and the picture looks awful, she is sitting there with her back showing looking like one of those girls in movies who have sex then cover themseleves with the sheet. Its inapporate for her fan age.
Taylor on the other hand is SEVENTEEN and a guy. A guy shirtless is like a girl wearing a skirt. Besides he had to for the movie and if miley cyrus was in a movie that asked her to wear a top with no back it won't be as big a deal. So true. Every female I know, no matter their age (I'm 19.) is obsessed with Taylor Lautner and his amazing body. And that's appropriate? He's still only 17. It's not. Miley does a few stupid things (I don't count the Vanity Fair picture as stupid, it's artistic and pushing boundaries but nowhere near her fault) and everyone hates her for it. C'mon. But that's always the double standard, males can so sexual stuff whether it's showing off their bodies or sleeping around and it's not perceived as a bad thing. While a female can't show too much or even think about doing something sexual without being called names. It's so ridiculous.

Yes I do, I mean, forget about Taylor LAUTNER for a second and take a look at Taylor MOMSEN from Gossip Girl. She is a year younger than Miley and performs onstage in lingerie, goes to bars and openly smokes. Whereas Miley takes a couple not even that scandalous photos and suddenly everyone is calling her a skank.

Agreed. When I see teenies bashing Miley, I ignore it... but I look at other gossip sites and see the way adults trash her, I'm disgusted. They say she's just a kid, and call her a bunch of nasty names in the same sentence.

Ok I'm going to say my opinion then leave.

Hollywood doesn't have a "double standard", it's what we have ALL been brought up to think of to be the norm. Women or girls all in general have NEVER been looked to show as much skin as men have. It has always been that way. I'm not saying that it's right or wrong, but that's the way it has been. As years and generations have gone by, a LOT of things have changed with how women can present themselves, but there is still a sort of "limit" to how much they can "show". Does that make any sense? It's not just "Miley" or "Taylor", it's all men and women in the world.
We all no that in Hollywood, and in the entertainment business in general, "sex sells". It's what keep the people and money coming in. I wish it wasn't that way all the time, but that's the world today. Maybe it will change and maybe it won't. Who knows?

Personally, I can understand the double standard arguement And to be honest, I never had a problem with Miley and the shoot. My issue, if anything, was the subtle exploitation. For instance, I saw other pics from that same shoot with the sheet that would have been perfect for getting the point across. The chosen pic just made her seem a little bit to vulnerable and ghostly looking. A simple shift in posture, lighting, hair and makeup and I think the backlash wouldn't have been so bad. It just seems the way the moment itself was captured. It contrasts very much to the 'confidence' in Taylors pic. But like I said, I do understand their are a lot of double standards going on here. Always have been.

It is different. Society makes it ok for a guy to not wear a shirt. Also, Taylor never claimed to be a role-model and his fans aren't mostly 7 year-olds.
