J-14 interviewed Michael Copon who trying to take Taylor Lautner's role of Jacob Black in New Moon. On physically being more like Jacob: 'I feel like I need to bulk down. Right now I'm close to 200 pounds of muscle.
Taylor's probably what, 140, if he's lucky? I'm already 200 pounds, so there's no need for me to get any bigger. Plus he's 5'6" and I'm 6'2". In the book, he grows eight inches and I'm exactly eight inches taller than Taylor. Huge difference.
I see so much in Jacob Black that I feel like wasn't brought to the first film that if I had the opportunity, I would totally create an amazing character. He's more than just a guy who walks around and smiles and likes Bella. It's just too one-sided.'
On not auditioning for the role: 'There's no auditioning going on, it's a lot of talking. My representation has been talking to Summit and they're hearing
that I'm one of the first picks.'
On run-ins with Robert Pattinson: 'I've seen Rob out here and there and we've hung out and had great conversations. Funny enough, before I knew who he was, I said, 'I'd be excited to play a part in Twilight 2' and he said, 'Oh yeah,
I'm in the first one.' I was like, 'Who do you play?' He's like, 'Edward.'
Taylor Lautner GAINING WEIGHT To Save Twilight Role Of JACOB BLACK
Taylor Lautner is desperately trying to gain weight to convince Twilight producers he should return in the sequel, New Moon, as Jacob Black. He revealed to MTV, 'I have been working out. I've been working out since the day we finished filming Twilight. I just weighed myself today; I've put on 19 lbs.'
Taylor revealed that he's meeting this week with director Chris Weitz to make his case. 'I'm guaranteeing Weitz 10 more [pounds] by filming.' Costar Ashley Green added:
'We all love Taylor. He's such a sweet guy, so sweet and I think that he gets the part. And the thing is that the girls just love him. He is the teen heartthrob. I'm hoping that they don't replace him because we love him.' Photo: Fame.

Taylor Lautner VS Michael Copon JACOB BLACK New Moon Battle
Since Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke was replaced Chris Weitz, suspicion that Taylor Lautner will be replaced for his role of Jacob Black has grown.
MTV News confirmed that Michael Copon is one of several actors Weitz is considering to play the new, larger Jacob.
A representative for Copon revealed that they're making a full effort to land the role. Michael recently updated his Facebook status with: 'Michael Copon in a Twilight Zone!' and 'Michael Copon is the older Jacob Black!'
A rep told MTV, 'The casting decision in regards to the character Jacob Black has yet to be made.' Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian actor Ben Barnes is also believed to be campaigning for the role of Aro, a mind-reading vampire whose encounter with Edward and Bella helps shape their destiny. New Moon, Eclipse Casting Information
Summit Entertainment is in pre-production of New Moon, and to contain costs, the studio is filming the third book, Eclipse, back to back. Catherine Hardwicke will not direct. Catherine Hardwicke Fired By Summit
Catherine Hardwicke will not be directing New Moon. Press release via DeadlineHollywood: Summit Entertainment and director Catherine Hardwicke jointly announced today that the filmmaker will not be directing the next installment in the newly minted TWILIGHT film franchise.
Summit's targeted end of 2009 or early 2010 release of the film, NEW MOON, does not work with Ms. Hardwicke's required prep time to bring her vision of the film to the big screen. Thus as has been done before with many successful film franchises, the studio will employ a new director for NEW MOON.
'I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct NEW MOON,' said Hardwicke. 'Directing TWILIGHT has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel, it is a great story.'
